Default Last Day for the Morning Guys

    https://www.coloradoan.com/story/ent...es/2660039002/

    Today, in today's Coloradoan:

Since 1988, Brian Gary and Todd Harding have woken up with Northern Colorado.

"For 30 years, we've gotten up and looked at each other, and to think that's only going to happen one more time — when we've done more than 8,000 shows together — you think you're ready, but ... "
Gary said Thursday, one day before his and Harding's final radio show as K99's "Good Morning Guys."

The show, which aired weekday mornings from 5 to 10 a.m. on 99.1 FM, will end Friday. Harding and Gary said neither of them knew what would take its place on the country music station.

The decision to say goodbye to "Good Morning Guys" came in November.

"We all reach that point where you just feel that it's time to go, and I've just kind of felt like it's time to go," Gary said.

Harding, 52, will remain with Townsquare Media and will likely stay on the air in some capacity, though no plans are set.

Gary, also 52, will focus on his next step as a motivational speaker. He's dubbed himself Brian Gary Happiness Warrior.

"Everyone's in such a bad mood," Gary said. "People have to learn how to guard themselves and how to be happy, and I'm going to teach them how to do that."

Harding and Gary's show has been called the "Good Morning Guys" since they first sat opposite each other in Townsquare Media's office of studios in downtown Windsor in 1988.

Ronald Reagan was in the White House at the time.

"We've made it through six presidents!" Gary quipped.

Then, K99 was known as QUAD99 — "the power station," Gary said — serving up rock and top 40 hits. It made the switch to K99 (and country music) soon after the duo started in 1988.

The first song Harding and Gary played on K99 was "Young Country" by Hank Williams Jr.

About a decade into their show, Harding and Gary were joined by Susan Moore, who helped host the show for the next 20 years.

In 2017, Harding, Gary and Moore were inducted into Country Radio Broadcasters Inc.'s Country Radio Hall of Fame.

Moore decided to leave the show just before Gary announced he, too, was ready to move on in November.

"We have enjoyed the last 30 years more than anyone could possibly imagine," Harding said. "We seriously are going to miss doing the show together."

"It's been such an honor to be in these people's homes every day and to feel the heart of the community and to be used as a vehicle to give back to the community," Gary added,
referring to the charity work the duo has been able to do as the "Good Morning Guys."

"It's the greatest blessing a guy can hope for in his career," Gary said.
