Default Regis University wins an LPFM CP

The FCC today awarded Regis University a Construction Permit for a Low Power FM station, at 97.9 FM with 100 watts. Regis is the latest winner among the local applicants who applied for LPFM licenses in the last application window during Oct-Nov 2013.

There was one competing applicant for the frequency, the Denver CO Chapter Buffalo Soldiers 8th & 10th (Horse) Calvary Association. But Regis won the license based on an FCC point system, which favors applicants who pledged to have a local accessible studio and a minimum of 8 hours/day of local programming.

Regis’ application to the FCC says they plan to become a voice for Northwest Denver, with local programming that includes live music and talkshows by student and staff deejays, sporting events, campus speakers, Sunday Mass, and programming aimed at the large Latino population in the area.

Two other local competing LPFM situations have yet to be resolved because the applicants are tied on points. All have been asked by the FCC come up with settlement agreements by October 8, otherwise the FCC will impose time-sharing. They are:

Northeast Denver 93.9 – Christ’s Church Apostolic and Ethiopian TV have a partial settlement; Youth on Record music education group, and Bread of Life Church are the other applicants.

Central Denver 104.7 – Denver Open Media Foundation and Denver Hackerspace.

Groups who win a CP have 18 months to build their station and formally file for a license, and could seek an 18 month extension if needed.
