Radio Resources Presents September 2023 (8/17 - 9/13) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 2: September Sports Surges and Top 40 Falls

Nielsen Audio has released Day 2 of its monthly four day sweep of ratings in PPM markets.
Today’s releases include Washington DC, Boston, Seattle, Miami, Phoenix, Detroit, Minneapolis, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Denver, San Diego, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

Washington DC
Public News/Talk 88.5 WAMU continues its dominance in DC with an 11.6 to 12.0 rise. Hubbard News 103.5 WTOP is down 9.3 to 8.7. iHeartMedia AC 97.1 WASH jumps up 6.9 to 7.9. Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.3/92.7” WMMJ/WDCJ rises 6.7 to 6.8. Howard University Adult R&B 96.3 WHUR rises 5.5 to 5.8.
Atlantic Gateway Communications Christian AC 91.9 WGTS rebounds 4.7 – 3.4 – 5.1. Radio One Gospel “Praise 104.1” WPRS-FM rises 1.7 to 2.3.
iHeartMedia CHR “Hot 99.5” WIHT falls 4.0 – 3.8 – 2.9 – 2.3. Ratings Expert Chris Huff notes that is its lowest share since its first survey period in Summer 2001. Also down are Audacy Classic Hits “94.7 the Drive” WIAD (4.8 -3.9 – 3.7 – 3.4), Audacy Hip Hop 95.5 WPGC (3.2 – 3.0 – 2.6) and Radio One Hip Hop 93.9 WKYS (3.1 to 2.4)
Boston
With the start of the NFL season, Beasley’s “98.5 The Sports Hub” WBZ-FM makes its annual move back to the top with a 5.6 to 7.8 surge. Audacy AC “Magic 106.7” WMJX trends up 5.4 – 6.3 – 7.0. Public News/Talk 90.9 WBUR dips 5.6 to 5.4. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX is off 5.2 to 5.1. Beasley Classic Hits 105.7 WROR falls 6.5 to 5.0.
iHeart CHR “Kiss 108” WXKS-FM slides 5.4 – 5.2 – 4.8 for what Huff says is its lowest share since Holiday 2021 and just a tenth off its PPM low.
Audacy Sports 93.7 WEEI-FM rises 3.7 to 4.2. iHeart News 1030 WBZ trends down 4.8 – 4.5 – 4.2 – 3.8, while sister Conservative Talk 680 WRKO is down 3.5 to 2.8 and Spanish CHR “Rumba 97.7” WZRM slides 1.6 – 1.4 – 1.1.
Seattle/Tacoma
Audacy Country “100.7 The Wolf” KKWF retains its lead dropping 7.9 to 6.8. iHeartMedia Classic Rock 102.5 KZOK rises 5.9 to 6.3. Bonneville’s “Seattle Sports 710” KIRO soars 4.0 – 4.7 – 6.0. Public News/Talk 94.9 KUOW-FM is down 6.8 to 5.9. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “95.7 The Jet” KJEB slides 6.1 – 5.9 – 4.9.
Audacy Rhythmic Hot AC “Hot 103.7” KHTP leaps 2.8 to 4.6. Hubbard AC “Warm 106.9” KRWM is up 3.5 to 4.0. Jazz/Blues 88.5 KNKX rises 1.9 to 2.5.
Going against the national trends both CHRs in Seattle rise with Hubbard’s “Movin 92.5” KQMV gaining 3.6 – 3.8 – 4.4, while iHeartMedia’s competing “Hits 106.1” KBKS is up 2.6 – 3.4 – 3.9.
Audacy Rock 99.9 KISW dips 4.9 to 4.3, while sister Soft AC “94.1 The Sound” falls 5.7 – 5.2 – 4.0. iHeart Variety Hits “96.5 Jack-FM” KJAQ trends down 4.4 – 4.2 – 3.7.
Miami/Fort Lauderdale
Cox Media Group Adult R&B “Hot 105” WHQT maintains its South Florida lead 7.9 to 8.0. Univision Spanish AC “Amor 107.5” WAMR jumps up 5.6 to 7.5 to place second for what Huff says is its highest share since Spring 2006. Cox Soft AC “Easy 93.1” WFEZ slides 8.0 – 6.9 – 6.5. Audacy AC “101.5 Lite-FM” WLYF dips 5.7 to 5.3, whiles sister “99.9 Kiss Country” WKIS moves up to fifth 4.3 to 4.4.
Audacy Classic Hits “102.7 The Beach” WMXJ rises up 2.8 to 3.9. Audacy Gold CHR “Power 96” WPOW-FM shows some growth 1.5 to 2.0, while their Sports 560 WQAM trends up 0.7 – 1.0 – 1.4.
SBS Salsa “Zeta 92.3” WCMQ-FM drops 4.3 to 3.6. iHeartMedia Hip Hop “103.5 The Beat” WMIB falls 3.4 to 2.6.
Phoenix
iHeartMedia AC “99.9 KEZ” KESZ retakes the Phoenix lead up 6.1 to 7.5. Hubbard Classic Rock 100.7 KSLX slips to second 7.6 to 7.0. Hubbard Rock “98 KUPD” surges up to third 3.6 – 4.6 – 5.5. iHeartMedia Variety Hits “95.5 The Mountain” KYOT is up 4.4 to 4.5, while Conservative Talk 550 KFYI rises 2.9 – 3.9 – 4.1 for fifth.
Public News/Talk 91.5 KJZZ-FM trends down 6.5 – 4.1 – 3.9. Audacy Classic Hits “Big 94.5” KOOL-FM is off 4.4 – 4.2 – 3.7.
Desert Valley Media Oldies “94.9/95.1 The Wow Factor” KOAI falls 5.4 – 4.6 – 3.6. Hubbard’s competing “Oldies 92.7” 1440 KAZG drops 2.9 to 1.2.

Audacy Sports “97.1 The Ticket” WXYT-FM trends up 6.7 – 7.2 – 8.4 (with its stream adding an additional 1.3 to 2.0 gain). iHeartMedia CHR “Channel 95.5” WKQI slips down 9.6 – 9.2 – 8.4. Audacy Country 99.5 WYCD benefits from the demise of “New Country 93.1” WDRQ to surge up 5.4 – 6.9 – 8.0. Audacy Classic Hits 104.3 WOMC trends up 5.7 – 6.6 – 7.6. iHeart Adult R&B “Mix 92.3” WMXD rises 6.7 to 7.2.

After growing for eight consecutive monthlies and peaking at an 11.6 share in July, Northwestern Media Christian AC 98.5 KTIS-FM continues to lead the Twin Cities but slips 10.7 to 10.1. Hubbard Hot AC “KS 95” KSTP-FM holds at an 8.2 share. iHeartMedia Classic Hits “Kool 108” KQQL dips 8.3 to 7.9. iHeart Sports “100.3 KFAN” KFXN-FM suges up 3.8 – 4.8 – 6.8. Public News/Talk 91.1 KNOW-FM holds at a 6.2.

Cox’s flip of CHR “Hot 101.5” WPOI to Adult R&B “101.5 The Vibe” WTBV in the third week of the monthly saw the station inch up 2.4 to 2.5. Beasley Rhythmic CHR “Wild 94.1” WLLD rose 3.4 to 4.5, while iHeartMedia CHR 93.3 WFLZ slipped 3.3 – 2.9 – 2.6. iHeartMedia Hip Hop “95.7 The Beat” WBTP drops 2.5 to 1.8.

Radio One Hip Hop “92Q” WERQ rose in-step 6.6 to 8.3 for what Huff notes is its highest share since May 2019. iHeartMedia Variety Hits fell from first to third but rose 6.7 to 7.2. Radio One Adult R&B “Magic 95.9” WWIN-FM rises 5.8 – 6.4 – 6.6. Audacy Hot AC “Mix 106.5” WWMX was up 5.1 to 5.6.
Hearst News/Talk 1090 WBAL rose 3.2 to 4.1, but sister “98 Rock” WIYY was down 4.7 to 4.0. M-10 Broadcasting Conservative Talk 680 WCBM is up 1.2 – 1.5 – 1.8.
Radio One Gospel “Praise 106.1” WLIF-HD2 trends up 1.7 – 2.0 – 2.4.

iHeartMedia Classic Hits 103.3 KLOU dips 9.0 to 8.7, but wins as it moves into the top spot for what Huff notes is its first claim of the top of the leaderboard since February 2019. Hubbard Classic Rock 94.7 KSHE is off 8.9 to 8.4, while sister Variety Hits “106.5 The Arch” WARH falls 11.4 – 10.3 – 8.2. Hubbard Alternative “105.7 The Point” KPNT rises up 5.7 – 6.2 – 6.8 – 7.5. iHeartMedia Country “93.7 The Bull” KSD rises 6.2 to 6.6.
