From All Access:
While television viewers went without audio from CBS lead football announcers JIM NANTZ and PHIL SIMMS during the SUPER BOWL power outage at the MERCEDES-BENZ SUPERDOME in NEW ORLEANS, DIAL GLOBAL managed to stay on the air the old-fashioned way: by telephone.
When the main broadcast feed and two of three backup lines failed due to lost power, the network went to commercial while play-by-play man KEVIN HARLAN and analyst BOOMER ESIASON went to landline phones, along with Exec. Producer HOWARD DENEROFF, and got back on the air to inform listeners about the situation. Reporter JIM GRAY found another landline phone to use, and sideline reporters JAMES LOFTON and MARK MALONE used their own cell phones to get on the air.
