    Default KOMF-LP Signs on

Denver’s newest radio station, KOMF-LP 104.7FM signed on today! It’s non-commercial, community radio. It’s the first of a new crop of low-power community FM’s to hit the air in Denver.

I am a volunteer with the station, which is a collaboration between the Denver Open Media Foundation, and Denver Hackerspace, a tech club. Many of us have been working for 3 years to get the station thru the FCC application process, win the Construction Permit, get the tower facilities and assorted gear, and complete a successful KickStarter campaign to fund the project. At last, it has become reality! We signed on today at Noon with live programming thanks to a connection with OMF’s TV facilities. Beginning tomorrow, the programming will be mostly automated music and other recorded programs (think “radio station in a closet”) until we can develop more live capabilities. We are dedicated to doing local radio, featuring the Music, arts and culture of Denver, with lots of listener-submitted content.

We are on 104.7FM with 100 mighty watts! the max for LPFM. We transmit from a great, tall tower in the River North neighborhood.

Reception reports are welcome, especially since there is a translator on the west side of town parked on our doorstep.

Well let me be the one to congratulate you on getting all that red tape out of the way and for getting started!
I hope you can get listeners to tune into your small radio station! It is nice to see that out of all the major corporations in radio world (IheartMedia, Max Media) and others.
That you were able to successfully get a license and to be on the air! I hope you can stay on the air and afford all the fees that come with playing music on the air to!
It is nice to see this happening! So good luck on this new radio station!

You would have to advertise like mad to get the word out in Denver! (Streaming online with a good web page) really does help. (I am sure you knew all this by now?).

Congrats on getting the station on the air. I hope you guys can get a following and serve your neighborhood with what works for them.

Sadly, KDCO's FM translator on the same freq does drown you out here in northwest Westminster.
But I'll make sure to tune in when I'm closer to your transmitter.

Let us all know the website and if you will be streaming to the rest of the world.

Thank you Rob and Radiodude! This is just the beginning of the adventure, we have so much to do and with limited resources.

For perspective, the FCC awarded 1,892 Construction Permits nationwide from the 2013 round of LPFM applications. CP's last 18 months, extendable to another 18 months. In the first 18 months of CP awards, 37% of the CP's made it on the air. KOMF signed on 20 months after getting our CP.

The website is not developed yet. Streaming will be coming, hopefully soon. Here is a pic of our originally-predicted signal coverage. Red areas are city grade, pink areas are mobile, purple areas are fringe.

Your welcome I find the youtube video of you testing your signal! Glad you went the right route to do this to! You know? I never realized just how popular the frequency of 104.7 is!
So again, good luck and I hope your new radio station works out!

Actually, you can also thank Janice Hunt for paving the way for local radio to even exist! Why?
She started her own radio company (Hunt Commuication) for The ROCK 93.7. I think she is the very first one to adventure into this local radio area in
    Denver!
Thanks for getting streaming up ASAP, it sounds good!
