Default Fox scores winning Super Bowl TV ratings

    From The Denver Post:

    Denver Post

Fox scored TV’s Super Bowl win: Despite being a blowout, and contrary to preliminary Nielsen figures, Sunday’s telecast on Fox ends up being the most-watched Super Bowl in history with an average 111.5 million viewers seeing the Seattle Seahawks domination (pony ride?) of the Denver Broncos.
That’s an increase of 3 million from last year’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers, even though that broadcast famously was marred by a lengthy blackout.
Super Bowl XLVIII matched 20113′s game with a 46.4 rating among households and a 69 share. The highest viewership occurred towards the end of the first half–when Broncos fans were still clinging to hope and the nation was still hoping for an exciting match. At that point, locally between 5:30 and 6 p.m., the game averaged a 46.9 rating and a 71 share among households. The half-time show set a record, too, with 115.3 million viewers catching Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, besting Madonna’s 2012 performance, the previous record holder.
Industry ratings-watchers said the fact that such a lopsided game still powered the game to record ratings demonstrates the power of the NFL.
For those counting Tweets: Nielsen SocialGuide reported 5.6 million people in the U.S. sent 25.3 million tweets over the course of the game.
