July 2022 (6/23 - 7/20) Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings Day 1: Classic Rock Records Fall In Atlanta & New York

Nielsen begins its monthly release of PPM ratings with today’s Day 1 update including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston/Galveston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Long Island, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Jose, and Middlesex/Somerset/Union.

New York
iHeartMedia AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW slips 6.4 to 6.0 but retains its lead. iHeart Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ rises 4.5 – 5.4 – 5.8 for second with Ratings Expert Chris Huff noting it is the largest share in station history. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM inches up 5.6 to 5.7. MediaCo Adult R&B 107.5 WBLS is up 5.3 to 5.4. SBS Spanish Tropical “Mega 97.9” WSKQ places fifth 5.1 to 5.0.
Red Apple Media Conservative Talk 770 WABC jumps up 3.1 to 4.1 which Huff notes is its highest share since December 2010.
Audacy Hot AC “New 102.7” WNEW trends up 3.4 – 3.5 – 4.1. Trending down are iHeartMedia Rhythmic Hot AC 103.5 WKTU (4.2 – 4.0 – 3.5), Audacy Sports 660 WFAN/101.9 WFAN-FM (3.8 – 3.3 – 3.1), SBS Spanish AC “93.1 Amor” 3.1 – 2.8 – 2.4, and Classical 105.9 WQXR (2.5 – 2.0 – 1.6).
Los Angeles
Audacy Classic Hits “K-Earth 101” KRTH claims the lead holding steady at a 5.5 share. iHeartMedia AC 103.5 KOST trends down 6.5 – 6.0 – 5.4. iHeartMedia Hot AC “104.3 My-FM” KBIG inches up 5.2 to 5.3. Univision Spanish AC “107.5 K-Love” KLVE trends up 4.2 – 4.4 – 4.9. iHeartMedia News/Talk 640 KFI is up 4.3 to 4.5.
Audacy Alternative 106.7 KROQ trends up 1.4 – 1.8 – 2.3 since the return of SVP/Programming Kevin Weatherly. The gains have not come at the expense of iHeartMedia’s “Alt 98.7” KYSR which rises 2.3 – 2.5 – 2.6.
Chicago
Hubbard Classic Rock “97.1 The Drive” WDRV retains its lead but dips 6.8 to 6.1. iHeartMedia AC “93.9 Lite-FM” WLIT rises to second 4.6 to 5.4. Public News/Talk 91.5 WBEZ-FM (4.6 to 5.1) and iHeartMedia Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ (5.0 to 5.1) tie for third. Audacy News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS dips 5.0 to 4.6.
Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 105.1” WOJO slides 4.5 – 3.9 – 3.6. Hubbard’s 100.3 WSHE is up 2.5 to 3.0 right ahead of its recent relaunch. Audacy Sports “670 The Score” WSCR is up 1.9 – 2.1 – 2.4. Alpha Media’s suburban Hot AC “Star 105.5” WZSR jumps up 0.6 to 1.2. Classical 98.7 WFMT falls 2.3 – 1.8 – 1.1.
San Francisco
Public News/Talk 88.5 KQED-FM surges up 5.9 – 6.4 – 8.0. Audacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC (6.3 to 6.2) and Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT (6.9 to 6.2) tie for second. iHeartMedia Soft AC “98.1 The Breeze” KISQ jumps up 4.0 to 5.0, while sister Hot AC “Star 101.3” KIOI holds steady at a 3.4 share.
Alpha Media’s new “Bay Country 94.5” KBAY/92.1 KKDV jumps up 0.9 to 1.5. Following its sale and move of its Country programming online in mid-June, EMF’s “K-Love” 95.3 KLRK dips 2.4 to 1.5.
Dallas/Fort Worth
Univision Regional Mexican “Que Buena 94.1” KLNO falls 7.4 to 5.9 but remains atop Dallas/Fort Worth. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Lone Star 92.5” KZPS rises 5.0 to 5.6. iHeartMedia AC “Star 102.1” KDGE is third 4.6 to 5.0. Audacy Classic Hits 98.7 KLUV and Cumulus Media News/Talk 820 WBAP both rise 4.0 to 4.5.
Audacy Regional Mexican “La Grande 101.5” KMVK rises 3.2 to 3.9. Cumulus Sports “The Ticket” 1310 KTCK/96.7 KTCK-FM trends down 4.9 – 4.4 – 3.7. Service Broadcasting’s Adult R7B “Smooth 105.7” KRNB trends down 4.1 – 3.7 – 3.2. Classical 101.1 WRR trends up 0.8 – 1.5 – 1.9 for what Huff notes is its best since January 2019.
Houston/Galveston
iHeartMedia AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA expands its lead to over two shares up 7.7 to 8.0. Hope Media Group Christian AC 89.3 KSBJ (up 5.2 to 5.7) and Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ (steady at 5.7) tie for second. Cox Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK rises 5.3 to 5.6. iHeartMedia Alternative “94.5 The Buzz” KTBZ-FM falls from second 6.6 to 5.5.
Univsion Regional Mexican “Que Buena 102.9” KLTN falls 6.2 to 4.7. Cox County “93Q” KKBQ is up 3.6 to 4.2, but Classic Country “Country Legends 97.1” KTHT falls 2.3 to 1.6. Cumulus CHR 104.1 KRBE trends down 4.2 – 3.5 – 3.4.
Atlanta
Cox Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV continues its recent surge up 8.6 – 9.7 – 11.0. Huff notes that is another station record and also the highest non-Christmas Music share for any station in the Atlanta market since “V103” WVEE had an 11.2 in September 2009.
Cox Adult R&B “Kiss 104.1” WALR-FM is second 6.7 to 6.8 followed by their AC “B98.5” WSB-FM steady at a 6.3. Cox News/Talk 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB (steady at 5.7) and Radio One Adult R&B “Majic 107.5/97.5” WAMJ/WUMJ (5.5 to 5.7) tie for fourth.
Radio One Hip Hop “Hot 107.9” WHTA trends up 1.9 – 2.6 – 3.0. Public News/Talk 90.1 WABE rises 2.9 to 3.8.
Cumulus CHR “Q99.7” WWWQ trends down 5.8 – 5.1 – 4.8. Salem Christian AC “104.7 The Fish” WFSH-FM slides 3.6 – 3.3 – 2.6. iHeartMedia Country “94.9 The Bull” WUBL is off 3.0 – 2.7 – 2.5. Audacy Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC trends down 2.3 – 1.8 – 1.4.
Philadelphia
iHeartMedia Adult R&B 105.3 WDAS-FM reclaims the lead with an 8.0 to 8.5 gain. Beasley Rock 93.3 WMMR falls to second but its 8.2 to 8.4 gain gives the station its highest share since February 2007. Beasley Classic Rock 102.9 WMGK dips 7.3 to 6.9. Audacy AC “B101” WBEB is fourth steady at 5.5, while co-owned Classic Hits “Big 98.1” dips 5.4 to 5.1.
iHeartMedia Hip Hop “Power 99” WUSL trends up 2.6 – 2.8 – 3.6. AAA 88.5 WXPN rises 1.9 – 2.1 – 2.4.
Trending down in Philadelphia are Public News/Talk 90.9 WHYY-FM (5.5 – 5.4 – 4.3), Audacy Sports 94.1 WIP (5.1 – 4.6 – 4.0), Beasley Country 92.5 WXTU (4.6 – 4.3 – 3.8), Beasley Sports “97.5 The Fanatic” WPEN-FM (2.3 – 1.6 – 1.4), Classical 90.1 WRTI (1.9 – 1.7 – 1.4).
Long Island
Cox Classic Rock 102.3 WBAB/95.3 WHFM retains its lead up 5.5 to 6.3. iHeartMedia Classic Rock “Q104.3” WAXQ takes sole possession of second up 5.4 to 5.8. Audacy Classic Hits 101.1 WCBS-FM dips 5.4 to 5.1. Cox CHR 106.1 WBLI rises 4.2 to 4.5, while iHeartMedia CHR “Z100” WHTZ is off 4.6 to 4.4.
Riverside/San Bernardino
Anaheim Broadcasting Classic Hits 99.9 KOLA-FM is off 7.5 to 7.1. Good News Radio Christian AC 89.7 KSGN jumps up 3.2 – 3.8 – 5.6. Entravision Spanish Adult Hits “Jose 97.5” KLYY holds at 4.5. Univision Regional Mexican “La 101.9” KSCA rebounds 2.9 to 4.1. Estrella Media Regional Mexican “La Buena 96.1” KRQB dips 4.5 to 3.8.
San Jose
Bonneville AC 96.5 KOIT rises 6.4 to 7.1 to take the South Bay lead. EMF’s new “K-Love” 95.3 KLRK falls from an 8.2 in its last mostly Country monthly to a 5.8. Audacy News 740 KCBS/106.9 KFRC rises 5.3 to 5.7. Bonneville Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX dips 5.6 to 5.3. Alpha Media Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR rises 3.7 to 4.5.
Alpha Media’s “Bay Country” 94.5 KBAY jumps up 2.8 to 4.1 following the demise of KRTY. iHeartMedia Hip Hop 106.1 KMEL trends up 1.6 – 2.2 – 3.1.
Middlesex/Somerset/Union
