Default KMGH Channel 7 tops 2013 Heartland Emmy Awards

    From The Denver Post:

Denver’s 7News (KMGH) came out on top in the regional Emmy contest on Saturday night, winning both the station excellence and news excellence awards at the 2013 Heartland Emmy Awards ceremony. KMGH usurped a title that had been in the hands of KUSA for years.
However the prestigious enterprise reporting honor went to 9News’ Chris Vanderveen.

The Denver Post photo staff won five awards for video and photo work. As first became apparent in last year’s regional Emmy contest, new technologies have leveled the playing field so that certain newspapers are now winning more statuettes than some TV stations.

The award for news anchor was a three-way tie among Juan Carlos Gutierrez of KCEC, Cheryl Preheim of KUSA and Kyle Clark of KUSA.
7News’ Marshall Zellinger was cited for his live reporting. Zellinger and Amanda Kost’s documentary “Investigating the Fire” won for topical documentary; Mike Nelson’s special report “After the Fires” was honored as best consumer special. Rocky Mountain PBS won for best cultural documentary for “Urban Rez.”

Two Denver TV veterans were inducted into the Silver Circle: Cynthia Hessin of Rocky Mountain PBS, and Adele Arakawa of KUSA.
Check the 2013 Heartland Emmy’s full winner’s list.
