TOWNSQUARE MEDIA Country KUAD (NEW COUNTRY 99.1)/FORT COLLINS, CO Assistant Brand Manager and afternoon host MATT SPARX was forced to cut a dream vacation to ITALY short this week as a result of Coronavirus outbreak, which has hit that country particularly hard. SPARX is traveling with his wife, DONYA and brother-in-law JIM, who are all now safely now in LONDON after leaving ITALY early yesterday (2/10).
SPARX told ALL ACCESS how an idyllic trip turned crazy. “We arrived in ROME on THURSDAY, MARCH 5th. While we were there, we got to experience the VATICAN and the COLOSSEUM with very little crowds. SATURDAY we left for NAPLES and spent the night before heading to the AMALFI COAST for two days. The tension and realism of the COVID-19 virus became a stark reality upon arriving into FLORENCE on MONDAY night. We learned of the lockdown that was placed on the country. After we got off the train, almost everyone was in masks [including] all of police. The town was on complete lockdown. We opted to cut our losses on the trip to ITALY and booked the first flight out to LONDON.
“My wife, brother-in-law and myself are currently safe in LONDON,” he added. “We will have to self quarantine for 14 days upon arrival back to the UNITED STATES. Talk about a memorable first trip out of the country!”
