Default Rush Limbaugh Escalates Battle Versus Cumulus

    From Radio Insight:

Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey has been very vocal over the past few months regarding the revenue losses that the boycotts connected to Limbaugh’s comments about Sandra Fluke last year have cost the company. With Cumulus planning to report its quarterly financials on Tuesday, Limbaugh is taking a preemptive strike against Cumulus.

In a pair of stories published Sunday evening, anonymous sources connected to Limbaugh are attacking Cumulus and Dickey. At Politico, Limbaugh’s sources are claiming the the show is “considering to depart Cumulus” at the end of the year. The program currently is cleared by Cumulus in 36 markets. The Politico piece goes on to state that Dickey’s comments about the revenue drops Cumulus claimed to have suffered are not due to Limbaugh and has lead to consideration to leave those stations.

Telling the New York Daily News that “Lew needs someone to blame, (so) he’s pointing fingers instead of fixing his own sales problem,” the attack is pointed at 770 WABC, the station that propelled Limbaugh to Talk radio stardom.

In addition to WABC, Cumulus also carries Limbaugh on other major market stations including 890 WLS Chicago, 820/96.7 WBAP Dallas, 630/105.9 WMAL Washington, and 760 WJR Detroit. Limbaugh’s program is distributed by Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks, which could have a station waiting to pickup Rush in New York’s 710 WOR, but would have to find affiliates in many other markets.
