Those 15-43-year-olds interested in social change may want to locate Pivot, a new cable TV network from Participant Media (“Lincoln,” “An Inconvenient Truth,” “The Help”) due this summer. Using the slogan “It’s your turn,” Pivot will launch Aug. 1 with an emphasis on “entertainment that inspires and accelerates social change,” targeting Millennials. It will also be available for a monthly subscription fee as an app for mobile devices.
Programming will include a late-night talk show called “Take Part Live”; a partnership with Rolling Stone magazine for live content and documentaries starting in the fall; reruns of “Friday Night Lights” and “Farscape”; “Will,” a scripted period piece about a young William Shakespeare, a reality series*”Raising McCain,” starring Senator John McCain’s daughter, a variety show, “Hit Record,” hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and “Little Mosque on the Prairie,” a long-running Canadian sitcom about a Muslim community.
A spokesperson for Comcast locally was uncertain whether the company would pick up Pivot. Participant Media executives said Pivot will launch with 40+ million subscribers.
