From Radio Insight:
Okay, there are actually four Country stations in America (or at least in Mediabase-monitored markets) where you conceivably could have heard both Zach Bryan?s ?Something in the Orange? and Chappell Roan?s ?The Giver? this week. But it was KYGO Denver where I heard them together yesterday in middays.
Roan?s foray into Country ? the most-watched song at the format since ?Texas Hold ?Em? ? is now losing steam at both Country and CHR. But it was still on KYGO 41x in the last seven days. ?Something in the Orange? still spins about twice a day on the station that first played it nearly three years ago and remains unfazed by an artist that other Country stations struggled to acknowledge.
In general, KYGO has been one of Country?s most streaming-responsive stations. Some major-market Country ratings have been uneven, despite the format?s recent success. KYGO has been one of Country?s most consistent performers. Being able to follow streaming to the acoustic/singer-songwriter end of the format has allowed the station to cast a wider net in a market where Triple-A KBCO also remains a ratings force.
In the just released March PPMs, KYGO was third, up 5.4-5.8. First-days? ratings have also seen KPLX (The Wolf) Dallas up 3.6-6.0, for its best numbers since 2017, according to Country Aircheck. There were also good showings for WPOC Baltimore (5.3-7.5) and continued growth for WBWL (The Bull) Boston (1.8-2.2), recently profiled here for filtering in pop titles and also playing both Bryan and Roan. We took a Fresh Listen to KPLX and KYGO.
Three years ago, KPLX filtered out its current titles, becoming a gold-based compliment to sister KSCS. Now, a handful of newer songs, mostly recurrents but as recent as Blake Shelton?s ?Texas? and Zach Top?s ?I Never Lie,? are playing somewhere in the 20-40 spin range. That?s an indicator of Country?s current strength, but it?s also perhaps an indicator of the retro feel of a lot of the new material.
I?ve noted before that major Country stations do a better job of conveying that ?something is happening here? than their CHR counterparts, in part because of Country?s concert scene. The Wolf was both participating in a group flyaway contest for Post Malone and Morgan Wallen in Boston as well as heavily promoting the upcoming Lone Star Smokeout barbecue festival with Jon Pardi, Cody Jinks, and Midland. One sweeper declares, ?If you want to know what Texas is all about, listen ? ?
Here?s The Wolf just before 11 a.m., April 23 with APD Smokey Rivers:
The Chicks, ?Cowboy Take Me Away?
George Birge, ?Mind on You?
Kenny Chesney, ?She?s Got It All?
Post Malone w/Blake Shelton, ?Pour Me a Drink?
Toby Keith, ?Wish I Didn?t Know Now?
Morgan Wallen, ?Sand in My Boots?
George Strait, ?I?ve Come to Expect It From You?
Tucker Wetmore, ?Wind Up Missin? You?
Luke Bryan, ?Someone Else Calling You Baby?
Bailey Zimmerman, ?Rock and a Hard Place?
Tracy Lawrence, ?Stars Over Texas?
Jelly Roll, ?Liar?
Cole Swindell, ?She Had Me at Heads Carolina?
LeAnn Rimes, ?How Do I Live?
Morgan Wallen, ?Thinkin? Bout Me?*
KYGO was giving away Dylan Scott tickets as part of a ?Staycation? promotion tied into his recent ?This Town?s Been Good to Us.? (The payoff was over a contest winner jingle bed, which I haven’t come across in a while.) The station is also giving away Jason Isbell tickets, as well as starting to promote its Birthday Bash 45 with Koe Wetzel, Kip Moore, and Corey Kent. Here?s KYGO just before 11 a.m., April 23, with middayer Sheena:
Sam Barker f/Avery Anna, ?Indigo? ? like most currents on the station, including Roan, preceded by a new-music sweeper with artist audio
Keith Urban, ?Somewhere in My Car?
Morgan Wallen, ?Love Somebody?
Brad Paisley, ?The World?
Zach Bryan, ?Something in the Orange?
Chappell Roan, ?The Giver?
Thomas Rhett, ?Unforgettable?
Cole Swindell, ?How Is She? ? another KYGO enterprise song that became a local hit
Zach Top, ?I Never Lie?
Scotty McCreery, ?See You Tonight?
Post Malone f/Morgan Wallen, ?I Had Some Help?
Jackson Dean, ?Heavens to Betsy?
Billy Currington, ?Do I Make You Wanna?
Jelly Roll, ?Liar?
Jordan Davis, ?I Ain?t Sayin??
Old Dominion, ?Motel Key?
Bailey Zimmerman, ?Rock and a Hard Place?

She also spent five years at NBC Sports Chicago hosting Cubs and White Sox pre and post-game shows and has spent time at networks including MLB Network, Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, CSN Houston, and Fox Sports San Diego.
VP/Sports Programming Mitch Rosen said, “We?re committed to having top-tier hosts who are respected by local teams and can connect with our listeners through thoughtful and engaging opinions. Rahimi commented, ?I?ve been happy to be a part of The Score team on a regular basis since late 2020, and I?m very excited to add a new chapter hosting the midday show in this role. The support The Score listeners have shown over the years has meant the world to me, and I?m looking forward to spending more time with them every day from ten to two o?clock.?

From Radio Insight:
Leslie Fram has announced the launch of consulting collective FEMco (Fram Entertainment & Music) offering services in Artist Development, Talent Booking & Production, and B2B Connection to Nashville?s entertainment community.
Fram exited her primary position as Senior Vice President of Music Strategy at Paramount Global?s CMT after thirteen years last October as part of a round of layoffs. Fram held her role at CMT, where she was recruited by then CMT President and current Cumulus Chief Content Officer Brian Phillips, since 2011. After beginning her career at WABB Mobile AL, Fram joined WNNX Atlanta predecessor ?Power 99? WAPW as APD/morning co-host in 1990 and rose to Program Director in 1997, and was part of every incarnation of the station?s morning show from the “99X” brand?s original launch in October 1992 until its demise in January 2008. She would then serve as PD of Emmis AAA 101.9 WRXP New York before joining CMT. She joined the reconstituted ?99X? alongside her former co-host Steve Barnes in February 2023 and will continue in that role as well.
The new company will focus on strategic career development for emerging and established artists, talent booking and producing, and connecting businesses and brands to Nashville’s entertainment community.
FEMco is also launching a music-focused production division FEMco Presents to continue creating programs like CMT?s Next Women of Country. FEMcountry launched last month at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Georgia and at last week’s Live In The Vineyard Goes Country in Napa, with other activations to be announced. FEMco Presents will soon expand to other genres to include FEMpop and FEMrock.
Fram commented, ?I’ve always wanted to start my own company, one that was intentionally designed as a purpose-driven business that aligns with my personal and professional aspirations. Through my time in radio and television I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge, skills and insights from various roles, industries and projects that are not just a collection of past events but a foundation for this very kind of endeavor. FEMco will allow me to focus on the parts of the business that have always brought me the most joy – advising and mentoring artists both male and female, booking and producing talent for a variety of entertainment platforms, creating connections between businesses and creatives, and championing women and underrepresented groups in country music. FEMco is the culmination of everything I?ve learned throughout my career and I?m honored and grateful to be able to give back and support a community that has given so much to me.?

Sanders said, “My journey as Program Director and midday personality at WZZK 104.7 with SummitMedia Birmingham has come to an unexpected pause.”
Mike McKenzie departs as Creative Content and Production Manager after 25 years in the Birmingham cluster for Cox Media Group and then SummitMedia. From Radio Insight:
One of Royal Gorge Broadcasting’s stations in Canon City CO will be resurrected as the company has sold the former “Star Country 104.5” KSTY to ‘Meg Stanley’ Medley’s Frontier Frequencies for $30,000.
KSTY and News/Talk 1400 KRLN Canon City went silent at the end of 2024. At the time of the shutdown, Stanley told the Colorado Springs Gazette that the Nebraska based owners were ready to retire. She also said the stations weren’t adapting to listener and customer demands, ?We weren?t keeping up * on the digital aspect of things, and it just came down to income versus expense. Not having the things we needed to accomplish digital demands this day and age, it just made it harder.?
The stations have been owned by Norton Warner and his children since 1965. The family previously owned stations across Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. KRLN is not included in the deal as Royal Gorge retains its license, tower site, equipment and building. The seller also retains KSTY’s employee contracts and intellectual property.

From Radio Insight:
Another longtime programmer has exited Westwood One following its elimination of seven 24/7 formats.
Cheri Marquart, a 32 year veteran of the company and its predecessors, is no longer with the company. Marquart joined then Jones Radio Network in 1994 as Music Director and afternoon host for its Smooth Jazz programming. She would rise to a Program Director in 2002 overseeing the launch of Classic Hits-Rock and added AC and Christmas in 2012. She would be promoted to VP/Programming of Contemporary Formats overseeing AC, Hot AC, CHR, Active Rock, Urban AC, Hip-Hop and Christmas and also was imaging voice for Adult Standards. Marquart was also APD/MD of Smooth Jazz “95.7 K-High” KHIH Denver from 1994-2000.
Marquart commented, ?47 years in radio and 30 of them at the network, that?s a pretty good run. I cherish my time coaching talent, working with creative people, and making many lifelong friendships.? Marquart can be reached at cheri.marquart@gmail.com.

From Radio Insight:
Eastlan Ratings has announced it will be continuously measuring four more markets, while adding another market for annual measurement.
Eastlan will begin continuous measurement of Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point NC, Memphis TN and Spokane WA, while Syracuse NY will switch from twice-per-year to continuous starting with the May monthly. Eastlan will begin surveying Bluefield WV with annual Spring ratings.
Eastlan President Mike Gould said, ?Quietly, we are watching radio broadcasters gracefully pivot. Building deep relationships with local and regional brands have become central today to all of the most successful radio operators. National revenue becomes less important each day. Eastlan data helps radio build the most effective schedules for their clients to ensure campaign success and to compete on a cost-per-impression basis with the digital giants. Local and regional buyers appreciate the accountability Eastlan data brings to the table. And like we?ve said for years, broadcasters appreciate the savings that in many markets are well into six digits annually.?
All Eastlan public releases are available on the RadioInsight Ratings page.
