From Radio Insight: Midwest Communications is giving the “Jack-FM” Variety Hits brand an upgrade in Kalamazoo. The format of “96.5 Jack-FM” WZOX Portage moved to 106.5 WVFM Kalamazoo replacing AC “FM 106.5” overnight. The move upgrades the format from the Class A signal to the Class B 106.5 signal that is also heard in much of Southwest Michigan including parts of the Grand Rapids market. The two stations will simulcast until Wednesday, March 3 until a new format debuts on WZOX. WZOX debuted its “Jack-FM” identity in November 2018 following a flip from Alternative. The station registered a 4.8 share in the Fall 2020 Nielsen Audio ratings tying for second in the market up from a 3.6 in the Spring. WVFM was tied for fifth with a 4.3 down from a 5.2 share. more

From Radio Insight: SiriusXM has announced that Tom Morello will program three streaming channels, host a second weekly show and debut a podcast for the network starting Tuesday, March 2. The three streaming channels are “Heavy Metal Happy Hour Radio” (channel 1122) described as featuring a hand-selected array of heavy metal music, ranging from hidden gems to classic cuts for a happy hour that never ends, “Riffs, Rhymes, & Rebellion Radio” (channel 1123) threading the needle between music and activism throughout history and genres. and “Battle Hymns Radio” (channel 1124) provide an audio assault of rebel anthems featuring the Freedom songs of the 1960s, the hip hop music that has been standing up for Black lives for decades, and the mosh pit-inciting, radically-raging rock. The longtime Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave guitarist and activist will also host “Tom Morello’s Radio Comandante” which will air on a different SiriusXM channel each week depending on which format suits the theme best. The first episode will air on “E-Street Radio” (channel 20) as he “focuses on the theme of American class consciousness and examines the 80-year history behind Bruce Springsteen’s song “The Ghost of Tom Joad.”” He will also continue to host the 90’s Alternative focused “One Man Revolution” on “Lithium” (channel 34) every Monday evening. Morello will also launch a weekly podcast “Tom Morello’s Maximum Firepower” through SiriusXM, Pandora and Stitcher debuting on Wednesday, March 3. The podcast will also air weekly on SiriusXM’s Music Talk “Volume” (Channel 106) starting that same day.
