Colorado Public Television (CPT12, Channel 12 PBS) will honor Academy Award-winning Colorado filmmaker, Daniel Junge, with the 2nd Annual Independent Media Award, to be presented at a luncheon on Oct. 27. The award recognizes “the career and work of an individual who has championed independent, non-commercial media and who helps to tell stories that show social justice and free and critical thinking.”
Junge is best known as a director and producer of “Saving Face” (2012), “Iron Ladies of Liberia” (2007) and “They Killed Sister Dorothy” (2008). His most recent work is “Being Evel,” a documentary on daredevil Evel Knievel.
Junge is a producer for the under-production documentary “Rolling Papers,” which covers the early months of Colorado’s new legal marijuana sales as viewed through media coverage, including The Denver Post and its pot-centric blog The Cannabist.
Eden Lane of “In Focus” will serve as host of the awards ceremony. KNUS radio personality Peter Boyles will be keynote speaker. The 2013 Independent Media Award went to digital storyteller Daniel Weinshenker.
