Altitude has a new attitude about the Broncos.
And Fox-31 News is the new home of "Fox on Fox" — an obvious built-in promotion.
Broncomania continues to reign supreme.
Altitude's weekly two-hour cable series (yet untitled) will premiere Aug. 28 (4-6 p.m.) before the Broncos' final preseason game, against the Dallas Cowboys. The series then moves to its regular 8-10 a.m Sunday time slot Sept. 7, when the Broncos open the regular season at home against the Indianapolis Colts.
"This is our first major effort to cover the Broncos in-depth," said Altitude president Kim Carver. "We're going all out for this project."
Series host Ron Zappolo, who continues to revive his sports career, will be joined by three former Broncos — Mark Jackson, Karl Mecklenburg and Brandon Stokley.
Each program in the series will preview the team's upcoming game and look back at the previous game. The series also will provide an NFL look, featuring around-the-league highlights with the three former players joining Zappolo in dis- cussion and commentary
Coach John Fox's show on Fox-31 should sound familiar to Broncos fans because the half-hour programs aired on KMGH-Channel 7 the last two seasons.
Why the change? Byron Grandy, general manager of Channel 7, claims scheduling was a major problem because of all the Channel 7 and ABC programming.
"We couldn't find a good time period," Grandy added.
He declined to comment about the possibility that Fox-31 offered the Broncos more money to produce and broadcast the show.
"I'm not aware of any of that," Grandy said.
Fox-31 will air the coach's show at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, beginning Sept. 5, and will replay the program at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays before each game.
Sports director Nick Griffith will host the coach's show — assisted by reporters Raul Martinez and Kami Carmann, who will offer feature material.
Meanwhile, Channel 7's special Broncos programming will be limited to Monday morning coverage on 247, the station's cable news channel that can be streamed on the station's website. Mitch Jelniker and Lionel Bienvenu will host.
