The RIAA has sent a letter of warning to REELRADIO.COM -- a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) -- curator RICHARD "UNCLE RICKY" IRWIN over the playing of complete songs in unscoped airchecks from decades ago, from stations that no longer exist, and is asking for IRWIN to provide permission for such use.
As a result, IRWIN has taken 1,147 airchecks offline to comply following the warning letter received last week (7/7).
IRWIN says, "We believe we can continue to feature our 'scoped content, from which the music has been removed, as we did for the first six years of our existence. These airchecks are not streamed under terms of our statutory license, they are streamed under provisions of 'fair use.' Of course, anyone can do that, and if we can't stream 'scoped airchecks, it would seem that airchecks will be gone from the web entirely."

Totally bogus stance. Marginal increase in revenue will be greatly exceeded by the cost of badwill generated by piling on the oldest audio streaming site in existence.
