Think you can swing a hammer? Design and build from scratch? Under the pressure of a timer and TV cameras?
Season 3 of HGTV’s “All American Handyman” launches at 8 p.m. Sunday with a medley of repair work, construction jobs and plugs for Craftsman and Sears. Additionally, three of the top 10 contenders are from the Denver area. The first timed challenges: toilet fixes and a custom doghouse. They’re competing for a $10,000 Sears shopping spree in addition to the title. Show information is here (http://www.hgtv.com/on-tv/all-american-handyman-season-3-meet-the-cast/pictures/index.html); following are bios per HGTV of the three handy locals.

Christopher Topp, 30, from Denver, owns a landscape and interior design company. B.A. in environmental studies from University of Colorado Boulder and an M.A. in public administration from University of Colorado Denver. A self-taught handyman, Christopher says he learned a lot about construction when he renovated his family home. Lives in Denver with his family and his cat, Bart.

Sonne Shields, 32, from Aurora, became hooked on construction after she worked on a cruise ship in Hawaii. The producers encourage viewers to go online and vote (http://www.hgtv.com/all-american-handyman-fan-vote/package/index.html) for their favorite contender. Like many reality TV shows, voting is less a democratic process than a rigged popularity contest.

That is, since the show is essentially a Sears infomercial, they encourage voting early and often. “From August 13, 2012, through September 28, 2012, at noon, vote up to 10 times daily for your favorite handyman.”
