CNN opened a four-person Denver bureau to (quiet) fanfare Monday night with a small reception to introduce correspondent Ana Cabrera. Upstairs at Euclid Hall in Larimer Square, Cabrera met a sea of law enforcement personnel (the FBI was out in force) and a few media types. The Denver native and former 7News anchor (http://blogs.denverpost.com/ostrow/2013/07/18/ana-cabrera-to-new-cnn-denver-bureau/15329/), who was with KMGH since 2009, expressed gratitude at having the chance to cover the region. She said she looked forward to a “mutually beneficial relationship” with CNN’s local TV affiliates.
Terence Burke, CNN’s VP-newsgathering based in New York, told the gathering that CNN’s re-entry into Denver marks a “new commitment to a broad range of stories” (ie. not just the most horrible breaking news events) and represents a plan to be “fully engaged in this market.”
While CNN has long had reporters here, the new bureau at 16th Street and Broadway represents a larger investment in the region, with senior producer Sara Weisfeldt, photojournalist Ken Tillis and a satellite truck operator yet to be named.

Ana Cabrera has been anchoring CNN's Early Start and New Day mornings shows all this week and doing a great job with it.
