Word on the street is that BRIARGATE MEDIA, the distribution, marketing and syndication agency owned by FOCUS ON THE FAMILY, is shutting down at the end of SEPTEMBER in a cost cutting move.

The current staff of BRIARGATE MEDIA will reportedly be laid off, and distribution of FOCUS programming will be shifted to AMBASSADOR ADVERTISING AGENCY beginning in OCTOBER.

While there has yet to be an official industry announcement regarding the BRIARGATE layoffs, the COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE (http://gazette.com/two-colorado-springs-ministries-laying-off-a-total-of-60-employees/article/1506109) is reporting that the layoffs are a result of a 3 million dollar shortfall in donation revenue, and the decision to shift distribution to BRIARGATE . A total of 40 jobs will be cut and the layoffs will extend to other FOCUS ON THE FAMILY staffers as well. 13 of the positions eliminated are within the BRIARGATE division, and 27 of the cuts will come from other FOCUS ON THE FAMILY departments.

FOCUS Pres-CEO/JIM DALY, in a letter to affiliates on their website (https://www.briargatemedia.com/Briargate/Highlighted%20Items/Announcement.aspx), wrote, "I am pleased to announce that FOCUS ON THE FAMILY has reached an agreement with the AMBASSADOR ADVERTISING AGENCY to syndicate and distribute our radio products. This renews a wonderful relationship with AMBASSADOR that dates back to FOCUS' earliest days. We’re excited about the innovation, industry knowledge and excellent service that AMBASSADOR will bring to our mutual relationship with you and our other valued affiliates."

"This move will impact our in-house agency, BRIARGATE MEDIA. As of OCTOBER 1, BRIARGATE will no longer distribute FOCUS radio products. This was a difficult decision to have to make, and I want to express my sincere appreciation to JAN SHOBER and the BRIARGATE team for their many years of dedicated, exemplary work in representing FOCUS to our affiliates."

BRIARGATE MEDIA had a very visible presence at this years MOMENTUM 2013, so this move comes as quite a surprise to staff and industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with the good folks affected by these layoffs, some of whom went from DISNEYWORLD with family last week, to learning their position and department was being eliminated on MONDAY.
