https://radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2023/09/kcpw-200x200.pngWasatch Public Media’s Public News/Talk 88.3 KCPW-FM (https://kcpw.org) Salt Lake City will be auctioned off by its lenders on October 9, 2023 at 10:00am Mountain Time.
The auction will require any entity that desires to become a qualified bidder to provide before a bidding deadline on October 4 must propose a minimum purchase price of $350,000, written evidence of a commitment for financing or other evidence of ability to consummate the purchase. The documents must be sent to Wasatch Public Media counsel George Hofmann and station broker Greg Guy of Patrick Communications.
KCPW-FM is licensed as a Class C3 with 450w/416m (https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=1f25201c972c452e9061c1b6063ebeb7&fa cid=13481) and holds a CP to upgrade to a Class C2 with 2.15kW/415m (https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=25076f91851308af01852b25aec00398&fa cid=13481). The station assets will be sold as-is. Wasatch Public Media acquired the station in 2008 from Community Wireless of Park City for $2.4 million. The group was founded by former KCPW-FM General Manager Ed Sweeney for the purpose of acquiring the station.
KCPW-FM is one of two Public News/Talk stations in the market along with University of Utah’s 90.1 KUER-FM (https://www.kuer.org) Salt Lake City. The station dropped its affiliation with National Public Radio in 2013, due to its inability to raise funds (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/83883/kcpw-salt-lake-city-drops-npr-affiliation/) and airs programming from other public radio distributors such as PRX, the BBC World Service, and WNYC.
