In a blog post (https://www.scottwintersblog.com/ch-ch-changes) at his personal website, Winters wrote that as he prepares to turn 60 he could no longer keeping up with his three jobs. In addition to WFGR, Winters was working as a real estate agent and working at FedEx and was having medical issues dealing with exhaustion. “It was determined that the health scare I had in July was related to being exhausted, needing sleep, and being dehydrated. The doctor told me pretty bluntly ? that I was working myself to death. At my age I couldn?t ? and shouldn?t ? try to maintain that type of daily schedule.” He adds that he has taken a new full-time job that “lets me continue doing something I?m very passionate about, while serving the community and also having the chance to mentor those who share the same passion for radio that I do. It also takes me back to my early broadcasting days from my late teens. I?ll also be working in an old building that I spent a lot of time in during my youth.”
Winters has worked in Grand Rapids radio since the late 1980s with stints in mornings at 94.5 WKLQ with Rick Beckett and Darla Jaye from 1992 to 1995 and at 97.9 WGRD from 1995 to 2002, and then middays at 1300 WOOD with Michelle McCormick from 2003 to 2010. He joined WFGR and sister Soft AC “100.5 The River (https://rivergrandrapids.com)” WTRV as a part-timer in 2015 and eventually added afternoons at WFGR while still a part-timer.
