Pivot, and its first original series “Please Like Me,” debuts Aug. 1, aiming for the millennial audience (age 15-34). The series is available online for binge watching. They’ve already set a second season.
The network, owned by Participant Media (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participant_Media), takes the place of Participant Media’s Halogen TV and Documentary Channel. So far, it’s not on Comcast in Colorado.
The channel will launch a late night talk show, “Take Part Live,” a variety show “HitRECord on TV” hosted by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6fqJt3mm6I#action=share) and a reality show “Raising McCain” with blogger and Senator’s offspring Meghan McCain. Also will pick up syndicated series including “Friday Night Lights,” “Little Mosque on the Prairie” and “FarScape.”
“It’s a completely different approach to television,” said Pivot president Evan Shapiro, deflecting questions likening Pivot to Current TV. Pivot wants to be interactive, disruptive to the status quo and busy with social advocating.
